Hartspace Studio Workshops
CREATING A LOVE OF DRAWING
The ability to see and be present
Drawing workshops have been designed for Creatives wishing to learn and explore the art and Hartspace of drawing. Drawing is the fundamental basis of all creative work, as it not only provides a lifelong skill, but also changes the way in which we visually see the world around us. Learning to draw is less about mastering any specific tool or technique, and more about learning to see accurately, holistically and being present in the moment.
Drawing what you are seeing at that present moment, without being distracted by preconceived ideas, makes for a convincing, heartfelt drawing. The exercises presented give the participant the skills to see – to really see – taking our visual awareness from a conscious effort to a subconscious, natural response to our environment. Learning to ‘see’ opens up avenues of exploration often neglected – creating an awareness and an appreciation for all that is our world.

CREATIVE MINDFULNESS
Stop - breathe - see - create
Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present. To be mindful, a moment-by-moment awareness of one’s surroundings, thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations is obtained. This is approached with an attitude of interest, acceptance and warmth. One could think of Mindfulness as a state of both doing and being. When we choose to practice Creative Mindfulness we pay close attention to what we are experiencing in the present moment, concentrating on the breath, the body and the creative activity simultaneously.
When we are practicing Creative Mindfulness, the marks we make on paper or canvas become an experience of discovery and creation, with the emphasis on connection, attention, lightness and playfulness. Creative Mindfulness is all about process and becoming aware of the process – it isn’t focused on product or perfection. Creative mindfulness assists in rediscovering your creativity, or overcoming the doubts that stop you. The playful approach helps support sustainable working patterns and above all will bring a greater clarity and insight to your creative ideas.
Those who have an existing mindfulness practice will find that introducing a creative element to their practice will allow them to deepen their insights and awareness.
In Creative Mindfulness workshops we move between periods of quiet sitting and active periods of creativeness. No previous drawing or meditation experience is necessary.
